Trading schemesThe Global-Bio-Pact project identifies future trends of global biomass/biofuels/bioproducts trade and its impacts. International trade of biomass and its products is increasing steadily. However, future trade of biomass/biofuels/bioproducts depends on legislation, trade barriers, as well as on demand and supply of different countries. In general, there may be increase export from developing countries to emerging economies and industrialised countries. These future trends may have positive and negative, social and environmental impacts. Opportunities and risks for rural development, poverty alleviation, and climate change will be created. This assessment includes World Trade Organisation (WTO) aspects and involves the IEA Task 40 (biofuel trade) through the IEA Task 40 membership of three of the Global-Bio-Pact partners (Universidade Estadual de Campinas, University of Utrecht, and Imperial College of London). |
